During her recent trip to Trinidad, Trinidadian-born American rapper Nicki Minaj reunited with her relatives on the island.
Minaj recently visited Trinidad and Tobago for the country’s annual staging of its Carnival. The rapper was spotted partying with Jamaican dancehall artiste Skeng and soca legends Destra Garcia and Machel Montano amid a crowd of carnival goers on a festival float.
Minaj appeared to thoroughly enjoy her trip, rocking a traditional Carnival ensemble during one of the festival’s road marches. However, Carnival, as thrilling as it may be, was not the highlight of the Trinidad native’s visit. On Monday, the Super Bass singer shared photographs of her and the rest of the Minaj clan on her Instagram page, declaring that the best part of her visit was seeing her family.

Minaj, whose birth name is Onika Tanya Maraj, was born in Saint James, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The artiste has three siblings: an older brother named Jelani, a younger brother named Micaiah, and a younger sister named Ming. Minaj moved to America to live with her mother, Carol Maraj, and her father, Robert Maraj, when she was about five years old.
She attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York to study music and acting. Minaj was later discovered by fellow rapper Lil Wayne and signed a recording contract with his label, Young Money Entertainment.
