Ice Spice is clearing the air when it comes to previous claims she called her two-time collaborator Nicki Minaj “ungrateful” and “delusional.”
While the texts were shared by a former friend of the Y2K rapper, Spice has yet to confirm their validity until now, telling Rolling Stone that she did, indeed, describe the Queens MC in such a manner out of frustration.
“I don’t really think she cares about sh*t like that coming from a random girl. But what I said in those texts was just in a moment of frustration around contract negotiations,” Ice explained. “But at the end of the day, regardless of how I felt in that moment, [Nicki] is still somebody I respect as an artist, and I’m always going to admire everything she’s done for me and the culture.”
When speaking on the current state of their relationship, the Bronx artist added, “We don’t have the closest relationship, you know? But we’re definitely good. We’re mutuals. We had smash records together. I love us together, I think the world does, too.”
The pair collaborated on “Barbie World” for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie, as well as on the “Princess Diana” remix. Spice also channeled the Pink Friday 2 rapper on her song “Phat Butt,” where she uses a flow similar to Minaj‘s while making reference to her tracks “Moment 4 Life” and “Rich Sex.”
While Ice claims she and Minaj are on decent terms, the relationship with her former pal who leaked the exchange is over and done.
“I think that the saddest part of the whole situation, it’s somebody I knew for so many years and called my friend had me open up and be vulnerable with them, and then took complete advantage of that for her own benefit,” the rapper said. “So that was the saddest part really, just feeling used, basically.”
